IV International Festival “Discover your Europe at the Hermitage”

St Petersburg, 22.09.2018: in the General Staff Building of the State Hermitage the IV International Festival “Discover your Europe at the Hermitage” was held. This annual event is held at the initiative of the State Hermitage and the Delegation of the European Union in the Russian Federation, in cooperation with consulates general and cultural institutions of the European Union member States. The festival coincides with the European Day of the Languages which is celebrated on September, 26. The EU claimed 2018 the European Year of the cultural heritage; that became the main theme of the festival.

The main and the brightest part of the programme was the Fair of the Cultures. Thirteen workshops, eleven lectures, seven movies, quizzes, music performances – in one Saturday 18 participating countries have shown the visitors various creative activities.

Interactive zone “Hermitage: preserving nations’ heritage” which was created by the Hermitage Volunteer Service highlighted the importance of the cultural traditions and revealed some of the “European secrets” – from the elements of the medieval dances to the culinary arts. Some lectures and special classes as well as poetry duels and traditional Hermitage contest of computer graphics and animation “Hermitage: preserving nations’ heritage” have been dedicated to the matter of preserving cultural heritage at the Hermitage.

The festival ended with a massive music show, the main part of which was the symphonic orchestra concert; it was performed by the St Petersburg Youth Symphonic Orchestra CreatoProject, which represented the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC))
